Terms of Service

By downloading, installing, or using the UniMarket app or visiting unimarket.uk, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use UniMarket.

1. Eligibility

UniMarket is exclusively for current students and staff of the University of Kent. To register you must have a valid @kent.ac.uk email address. You must be at least 18 years old. By creating an account you confirm that you meet these requirements.

2. Your Account

• You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
• You may not share your account with anyone else or create accounts on behalf of others.
• You may only have one active account at a time.
• You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.
• If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@unimarket.uk.

3. Listings and Content

What you can post

UniMarket supports three listing types: items for sale, student services, and society events. Listings must be genuine, accurate, and relevant to the University of Kent campus community.

Prohibited listings

The following are strictly not allowed:

• Illegal goods or services of any kind.
• Weapons, ammunition, or dangerous items.
• Controlled substances, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.
• Counterfeit, stolen, or fraudulently obtained items.
• Adult content or sexually explicit material.
• Items that infringe intellectual property rights.
• Misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent listings.
• Spam, duplicate listings, or listings with irrelevant content.
• Personal data or private information about others.
• Financial products, loans, or money transfer services.
• Anything that violates University of Kent policies.

Content ownership

You retain ownership of the content you post. By posting, you grant UniMarket a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and distribute that content within the app for the purpose of operating the service. You confirm you have the right to post any images or text you upload.

4. Transactions

UniMarket is a discovery and connection platform. We do not process payments, act as a party to any transaction, or hold any funds. All sales, agreements, and exchanges are solely between the buyer and seller. We strongly recommend:

• Meeting in a public place on campus for in-person exchanges.
• Inspecting items before payment.
• Using a traceable payment method (bank transfer, PayPal Goods and Services, etc.).
• Keeping records of your communications within the app.

UniMarket is not responsible for the quality, safety, legality, or delivery of any item or service listed on the platform, nor for the accuracy of any listing.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use UniMarket for any unlawful purpose.
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service or another user's account.
• Scrape, crawl, or systematically download content from the platform.
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the service.
• Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any security measures.
• Impersonate any other person or entity.
• Post false reviews, fake listings, or misleading information.

6. Moderation and Enforcement

We reserve the right to remove any listing or content that violates these Terms at our sole discretion, without prior notice. Repeated or serious violations may result in suspension or permanent removal of your account. We may report illegal activity to law enforcement. You can report listings or users directly within the app.

7. Availability

We aim to keep UniMarket available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend the service for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control. We are not liable for any losses arising from unavailability of the service.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

UniMarket is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, secure, or free from viruses. We do not endorse any listing, seller, buyer, or event on the platform.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, UniMarket and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to losses arising from transactions between users. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed £100.

10. Intellectual Property

The UniMarket name, logo, app design, and website are owned by UniMarket. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute them without our written permission. All third-party trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

11. Privacy

Your use of UniMarket is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via a push notification or in-app message. Continued use of UniMarket after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
